Grief Of An Island (Lesvos)

I saw in her eyes the deepening fear that could crush even the strongest of souls

I saw in her eyes the despair that only terror brings

loneliness were her eyes new frontier

mistrust was the gravity that had kept her stuck here

Her eyes spoke of the vanished beauty she once knew

only a spirit that had once held love could look this lost

Her eyes, blue in colour, withdrawn and empty, fixed upon each new face

searching for answers, for friends, for refuge, for arms to rest within

I saw in her eyes the story of her journey

and a deep knowing

that there are some scars not even time can heal
